Many enterprises are unwilling to outsource their core product engineering and engineering activities, unlike transactional IT Services and BPO services, which are not core activities and can be better managed by experts. Product manufacturers’ secret competitive sauce has traditionally been their internal design and make capabilities. Engineering service is a supply-side problem, not a demand-side problem. Outsourced spending is less than 10% of the $1 trillion global R&D spending. The only path to high growth for engineering services is by someone convincing R&D stakeholders to outsource more of their R&D work!
