In the US, the digital capabilities of a health plan continue to be important to health consumers (members, patients) to enable administrative efficiency, enhance wellness management by leveraging real time health data from wearables, and support effective engagement. The implications of the right digital capabilities could have significant impact on the triple aim of care (cost of care, health outcomes, and experience of care).

To meet these increased digital expectations- there is much work needed to be done by payers and providers, so this HFS roundtable will therefore seek to understand from health plans and provider executives what their challenges are, their aspirations, and operational strategies to meet the growing digital demands of their members, and patients. Specifically.

  • Vertical integration: The acceleration of vertical integration (payer, provider, PBM, health services) is going to exacerbate the gap between health consumer digital expectations and health plan-provider capabilities. What is the level of acknowledgment and priority for health plans and providers to address the gap?
  • Payer-provider friction: Siloed data, counter process programming, and trust deficit between payers and providers continue to spill over into health consumer outcomes. What is the level of acknowledgment and priority for health plans and providers to address the friction?
  • GenAI: While emerging tech hype can be distracting, some like GenAI have enormous potential to address tactical legacy problems and inspire strategic reimagination. How do health plans and providers plan on leveraging GenAI beyond the contemporary hype and narrative?
